Our Wine Advent-ure: Day 16

Day 16 of our Wine Advent-ure took us to Chile's Central Valley for a sampling of a semi-sweet Moscato named El Campeón. Despite the rooster depicted on the label, the name means "The Champion."

Although the label says, "Semi-sweet," we thought it was more than that. Not as sweet as a Late Harvest Riesling or an ice wine but much sweeter than, say, a halbtrocken Riesling from Germany, we could see it going nicely with fruits, cheeses and crackers before the main meal. Which is exactly what we did before moving on to our dinner of grilled Duroc pork chops, sweet potato fries and peas in lemon butter. For our main course, we chose one of our go-to New Zealand Sauv Blancs.

The wine's sweetness would also pair well with spicy Thai or Indian cuisine as the sweetness would offer a counterpoint to the spice. It would also go nicely with spicy sushi rolls, soft cheeses or a lemon sorbet.

Prost!
