Back in the day, U.S. airlines that cancelled flights under most circumstances were required to put passengers on the next scheduled flight to their destination, even if that flight was on a competing airline. While the regulation that required that accommodation – Rule 240 – has largely gone the way of the dinosaur, three airlines still abide by that rule.
