Day 11 of Advent brought us to Tranquille, a red wine from Spain crafted from Garnacha grapes.
Garnacha grapes, also known as Grenache in France, typically produce wines that are medium- to full-bodied with moderate tannins. This wine provided an excellent example of those characteristics.
This one has a medium ruby color and aromas of berries, spice and the slightest bit of earthiness on the nose. I also detected berries and a bit of vanilla on the palate. To my tongue, it is pleasantly medium-bodied with just a hint of tannins.
Tasting notes say it goes well with roasted lamb, grilled vegetables, paella, Manchego cheese and tapas. We could envision all of the above, though we had the grilled lamb and vegetables the night before, with The Butchery Cabernet Sauvignon. Tonight, we enjoyed as Asian-inspired chicken stir-fry.
By itself, with the stir-fry or with a bit of cheese, the Garnacha stood up well.
Tomorrow, we cross the Pyrenees to sip a red blend called Latitude 44 from the Languedoc region of France. As always, we will share what we find.
