After years of trying unsuccessfully to procure one, our adult children surprised us at Thanksgiving with an Advent Wine Calendar.
Raised Catholic, I know of course that Advent is the 24 days before Christmas but we never participated in the tradition of the Advent Calendar. I am discovering how much fun it can be.
If you’re not familiar, an Advent Calendar is a visual countdown to Christmas, typically featuring numbered "doors" or compartments that are opened each day leading up to December 25. Behind each door is a small treat – often chocolate -- a picture, or devotional message, allowing people to mark the days of Advent.

Behind each numbered door is that day's wine |
An Advent Wine Calendar seems to us the absolute best rendering of that tradition.
Marketed by Flying Blue Imports using the URL www.WineAdvent-ure.com, each calendar contains 24 half-bottles of wine from many of the world’s famous wine regions. At 375 ml per bottle, that’s two glasses – perfect for a couple of oenophiles to share.
We’ll be opening the first on Sunday, sharing our thoughts on Monday, then on successive days through Advent. Please join us on our Advent-ure, even if it is vicariously. If you can find an Advent Wine Calendar of your own and want to offer your thoughts on the wine of each day, we’ll share them here.
Salute!
