Win a trip a year ... for life!

A Canadian tour operator is offering a contest it claims to be the first of its kind: a chance for participants to win a trip a year for life.

The Taj Mahal
More or less. As the fine print reveals, Exodus Travels will actually provide the winner a travel credit of CAN$2,500 a year for the rest of the winner’s life or the next 25 years, whichever comes first. The credits will be valid toward any of the many travel packages the company offers. All one has to do is go to the contest site at www.WinATripforLife.com, choose their top three dream trips from the company’s portfolio, and provide their name, birth date and contact information.

“Exodus has been creating unforgettable travel experiences for decades and we’re extremely proud to introduce a contest of this scale,” Robin Brooks, marketing & PR manager for Exodus Travels, said. "Not only is this the chance to win the adventure of a lifetime, but it’s an adventure that will last a lifetime.”

Exodus Travels began offering adventure travel to the world’s most far-flung places 43 years ago and now offers more than 600 cultural, hiking, cycling and responsible wildlife adventures to nearly all of the earth’s areas. It also offers trips that might be considered less adventurous but no less interesting, such as those I chose as my top three: Portugal Wine and Walking, the Piedmont and Parma (Italy) Culinary Tour, and the Literary Walking Tour of England’s Lake District to feed my wife's fondness of Beatrix Potter, Wordsworth and Tennyson.

The Aurora Borealis
The company’s offerings also include laid back journeys such as sipping through Italy’s wine regions to cycling Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast and classic African wildlife safaris. Adrenaline junkies may prefer hiking Peru’s Inca Trail, biking around Iceland, trekking the Himalayas in Nepal or climbing the active volcanoes of Indonesia.

I found the Win a Trip for Life contest very simple to enter. Simply explore the contest site, click on balloon icons over areas that the tour operator covers, and choose the top three dream trips from the company’s portfolio.

Contestants are not required to take the trips they identify as their favorites, but why wouldn’t you?

There are some provisos. The contest is only open to adults who are legal residents of Canada (excluding residents of Quebec), the fifty United States and the District of Columbia. Importantly, each contestant can only enter once, and multiple entries using multiple names, identities or email addresses may result in disqualification, according to contest rules. Entries must be submitted by September 15, 2017 at 11:59:59 p.m. ET. The winner will be drawn on Sept. 20 and notified within 15 days.

In addition, the travel credit cannot be used toward international airfare, and the winner will also be responsible for other out-of-pocket expenses such as taxes, fees and expenses not specifically covered by the prize. Finally, the prize cannot be assigned, transferred, or bequeathed as part of an estate. Pretty standard contest stuff, really.

Those who meet eligibility requirements can enter the contest by visiting www.WinATripForLife.com, which includes instructions on how to enter, as well as full rules and regulations.

If you happen to be the lucky winner, bear in mind that a $2,500 credit will be worth less in 2042 than in 2018, so choose your vacations strategically to maximize the value of your prizes.

Good luck, and bon voyage!
