Upmarket Vail hotel offers last-minute ski deal

The European-themed Sonnenalp Hotel in Vail, Colo., is offering guests the opportunity to experience its hospitality and luxury this spring at a bargain rate.

Renowned for its gemütlichkeit, which translates as coziness, snugness and friendliness, the property earned top honors in Travel + Leisure’s 2016 World’s Best Awards. To attract skiers looking for a last-minute getaway, the Sonnenalp Hotel is offering a deep percent discount for its Juniper Hotel Room for stays between Mar. 17 and Mar. 31.

The package offers the Juniper Room at $517 per night, a 45 percent reduction from the normal rate of $940. Sales tax of 9.8 percent and a $35 resort fee are additional.

Hotel rooms can sleep two to three people and range in size from 350 to 420 square feet. They feature two double beds, personalized in-room refreshment center, flat screen television with LodgeNet access and a large bath with tub/shower combination and heated marble floors.

Other accommodations include junior suites, one and two-bedroom suites to a four-bedroom penthouse featuring an infinity swimming and whirlpool, a massaging tub in the master bedroom, granite slab countertops and private underground heated parking.

The facility also has two, three and four-bedroom residences for stays of seven nights or longer. Rates are dependent on room category, dates and availability.

The property features four on-site restaurants, including Ludwig’s, which offers a bountiful European style buffet served on a beautiful glass enclosed terrace. Bully Ranch offers lunch and dinner in a casual, western-style atmosphere with offerings including chicken wings, burgers, fish and chips, steaks and salads. Bully Ranch also offers a dog-friendly patio for those traveling with their furry friends.

Dinners of traditional European cuisine are served at Swiss Chalet and include Käse Spätzle – homemade dumplings topped with cheese and crispy onions – and Swiss fondue. Guests can wind up the evening in front of a roaring fire at King’s Club. The venue, which is open daily from 5 to 11 p.m., offers live entertainment starting at 8 o’clock on Wednesday through Saturday nights.

A wide variety of activities can be arranged by the hotel’s concierge including hiking trips into the Rockies, horseback riding, a stand-up paddleboard float trip with a riverside lunch, and more. The property also offers a kids’ club with structured activities and adventures under adult supervision. The Sonnenalp Kids Club is complimentary and open to children from ages 3 through 12.
