Award-winning car rental company Silvercar continues its expansion with the inauguration of service at Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport (LAS).
The company’s Jan. 4 opening of the first new location just days into 2016 comes on the heels of rapid expansion during 2015, when the company opened in several key markets including Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Chicago’s O’Hare Airport (ORD), and an off-airport location in New York City. The company also operates locations at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), Dallas Love Field (DAL), Dallas-Ft. Worth (DFW), DEN, Los Angeles International (LAX), Miami International (MIA), Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), and San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
The opening of the new location was announced in a statement that also contained details of the company’s largest capital raise to date; a $28 million Series C equity issuance led by Audi. Silvercar also received funding from Series B investors including Austin Ventures and Eduardo Saverin, co-founder of Facebook.
“The funding will enable Silvercar to accelerate its award-winning airport car rental business and expand to new markets nationwide,” the company’s statement said.
Additionally, as part of the next phase of Silvercar's partnership with Audi, the companies will work in tandem to develop Audi Shared Fleet, a turnkey solution for businesses looking to provide accessible transportation to their employees on corporate campuses, the company added.
"Audi's confidence in Silvercar allows us to extend our reach even further, and bring forth the concept of shared mobility into many more markets, applications and product offerings," Luke Schneider, Silvercar CEO, said. "It is our goal to accelerate the expansion of our successful airport business in order to integrate these new mobility products into the market as soon as possible."
In addition to a higher degree of automation than traditional rental car companies, Silvercar focuses on providing a high-end experience through both the cars it rents and the service it offers. Silvercar’s rates include a number of amenities for which many other companies charge extra, including in-car Wi-Fi, in-dash GPS navigation, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Finally, its customers pay only pump prices for fuel used plus a $5 fill-up charge instead of the significant surcharges added by many rental car companies, and will only pay for bridge or highway tolls incurred without transponder fees, such as those charged by Hertz and National.
As for its service, Silvercar was recognized at the 22nd World Travel Awards in October as "North America's Leading Car Rental Company" due in large measure to the company’s customer satisfaction and loyalty scores, which are the highest in the industry according to the awards’ sponsor.
