'Plan a Cruise Month' specials abound

With October designated National Plan a Cruise month by the CLIA, the Cruise Line Industry Association, many cruise lines are offering specials to encourage would-be cruisers to take the plunge.

For the month of October, river cruise line AmaWaterways is offering guests $200 off per stateroom on any 2015 or 2016 cruise.

AmaWaterways' AmaLegro
AmaWaterways offers itineraries in Europe, Africa and Asia, providing options for travelers with a broad range of tastes and expectations. Guests cruising the Seine River can stop in Giverny and explore Monet’s home and gardens. Cruisers can also visit the Netherlands and Belgium in the spring for beer tastings, historic brewery tours and more.

Sample itineraries include a wine-themed cruise through Paris and Normandy. The seven-night cruise begins and ends in the City of Lights with most sailings starting at $2,899 per person. The seven-night Tulip Time cruise starts and ends in Amsterdam and features the famous Dutch tulips. Prices start at $2,499 per person, though sailings departing in late March can be booked at a slight additional discount.

AmaWaterways’ discount is based on double occupancy, cannot be combined with two-for-one offers, and is valid only on new booking made before Oct. 31.

Cruise line Viking River Cruises is offering two-for-one cruises and up to $2,000 off international air fare for several Baltic, Mediterranean and Scandinavian cruises. Bookings must be made by Oct. 31.

Small ship cruise line Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is offering specials on six Mediterranean cruises aboard its ship Europa 2. Through the Europa 2 Summer Special Campaign, the cruise line is offering guests attractive savings of up to 30 percent when booking a Veranda or Ocean Suite, or a Grand Ocean or Penthouse Suite.

Itineraries include a seven-day cruise from Piraeus (Athens) to Istanbul, a seven-day cruise on the coast of the Black Se beginning and ending in Istanbul, a 10-day cruise from Istanbul to Piraeus (Athens), a seven-day cruise from Piraeus (Athens) to Civitavecchia (Rome), a nine-day cruise from Civitavecchia (Rome) to Monte Carlo, and a seven-day cruise from Monte Carlo to Lisbon. Prices range from $4,070 to $5,750 per person, depending on the cruise, in a guaranteed verandah or ocean suite. Larger accommodations are available at additional cost.

Recently named one of only two 5-stars-plus cruise ships worldwide by Berlitz Cruising & Cruise Ships 2016 guide, Europa 2 offers what the cruise line calls “contemporary luxury.” The ship carries a maximum of 500 guests looked after by 370 crew members and offers "All the promises of a yacht and the serenity of a small resort … [in] the highest level of casual luxury,” according to the cruise line’s website.

Special prices aboard the Europa 2 are available through Nov. 30, 2015.

Additionally, there are a total of five cruises between March and November with a “50-percent-off-offer” applying for the second guests.

The Summer Special campaign offers guests inspirational experiences at a total of 25 destinations in the Eastern and Western Mediterranean. More information can be obtained from the campaign’s dedicated website, which provides information about the ship, the route, prices and the various types of suite as well as lifestyle and insider tips on excursions at each of the ports.

This list is not in any way exhaustive. Many cruise lines are offering specials that include two-for-one offers, free airfare, free beverage packages and more. If you are considering a cruise, check with a cruise professional or your preferred cruise line to see what they may have on offer. You may find the timing is just right.
