Tall ship specialist Star Clippers is offering a special fall sailing package that includes stops at the Italian island of Sardinia and several ports of call in Spain.
The 10-night package being offered is during the shoulder season, from Oct. 22 through Nov. 1, and features an itinerary that includes stops in Cagliari, Sardinia with its dazzling beaches as well as more than a half-dozen Spanish ports of call where guests can experience the amazing variety of Spanish food and the richness of Spanish culture.
The voyage will be aboard the Star Clipper, a four-masted barquentine built as a cruise ship. A barquentine is a sailing ship with at least three masts, all of which are fore-and-aft rigged except for the foremost one, which is square rigged.
Star Clipepr is the first clipper ship in this class since 1912, according to WikiPedia. The Star Clipper and the Star Flyer are two of the line’s three ships and carry 170 passengers each. Their larger sister ship, the Royal Clipper, carries 227 passengers. The three number among the world’s largest and tallest sailing vessels.
Recognized as one of the premier specialty cruise lines, Star Clippers offers passengers the activities, amenities and atmosphere of a private yacht. In addition, its ships’ small sizes allow access to smaller ports that are often untouched – and indeed, untouchable – by larger cruise ships, but without sacrificing creature comforts including first-class accommodations and gourmet dining.
In addition to the arguably romantic experience of sailing aboard a true tall ship, all three ships have upmarket finishes and amenities including expansive teak decks, swimming pools, informal dining, a convivial Tropical Bar on deck and a piano bar.
The itinerary for the fall sailing package on board the Star Clipper includes nine nights from Valleta, Malta to Malaga, Spain with stops in Sardinia; the Balearic Islands of Menorca, Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza; Cartagena, Spain; and Motril, Spain.
Rates start at $2,415 per person based on double occupancy for a category 6 cabin, which the cruise line’s website describes as an inside cabin with upper and lower berths. Larger inside and outside staterooms are available at additional cost. All cabins feature private bathrooms, air conditioning, hair dryers, private safe, television, DVD player, telephone and other amenities.
Port charges and transfers to Valleta, Malta and from Malaga to Pablo Ruiz Picasso Airport (AGP) are at additional cost.
The package rate includes airfare to Europe from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, New York, Miami, Dallas, Houston, Washington and Philadelphia. Guests who fly out of other cites will pay a surcharge. Depending on the passengers’ point of departure and airline schedules, guests may have to purchase a hotel night, which is not included in the package price.
A post-cruise night at a four-star hotel in Malaga is also included, along with a transfer from the ship to the hotel and breakfast the following morning.
The package is available to residents of the U.S., Canada and Latin America. To obtain the special pricing, the package must be booked by Sept. 15.
