Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) flight 1086, an MD-88 from Atlanta (ATL) to New York's LaGuardia Airport (LGA), skidded off of Runway 13 while landing in heavy snowfall just after 11 a.m. Eastern time Thursday morning, March 5.
According to dispatchers for the new Jersey and New York and New York Port Authority, which runs the airport, there were three minor injuries.
In its initial statement on the incident, the airline said passengers deplaned and were taken to the terminal on buses. News sources said the passengers used the plane's emergency slides.
"Our priority is ensuring our customers and crew members are safe," the statement said.
Delta is working with all authorities to gather additional information and will provide details about precisely what happened "as soon as they become available and are confirmed," the carrier added.
