Valentine's Day in Victoria, BC at the Magnolia Hotel & Spa

With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, I was delighted to learn that one of my favorite hotels in western North America has just been named among the Top 25 Romantic Hotels in Canada in the 2015 TripAdvisor’s® 2015 Travellers’ Choice® awards, making it a great choice for a romantic getaway.

Hotel entrance
The Magnolia Hotel and Spa in Victoria, British Columbia, is a 64-room boutique property that, despite being close to the city’s active core, offers an atmosphere that is tranquil and relaxed. My wife and I discovered The Magnolia over the Canada Day weekend in 2012 and were immediately captivated by its charm and dubbed it the city’s “hidden gem,” and are always thrilled when we have the opportunity to return.

From now through the end of March, the hotel is offering four special “Romance Packages”:

The Romance Concierge package includes accommodation in a luxurious room, daily continental breakfast and a $100 voucher per day “to personalize your romantic getaway,” according to the hotel’s marketing materials. The “Romance Concierge” is available to take care of all the details, whether that is having fresh flowers and a favorite bottle of wine delivered to your room, enjoying chocolate covered strawberries, dining at one of Victoria's fine restaurants or taking a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride. The Romance Concierge package is available for romantic occasions year-round, starting at $299 per room per night.

Room 705
The Dinner Date package includes in a romantic candlelit dinner for two at the Catalano Restaurant and Cicchetti Bar that adjoins the hotel, followed by a night in one of the hotel’s 4-Diamond rooms. Starting at $269 per night, the Dinner Date package includes continental breakfast for two and $100 credit toward dinner.

The Spa Date package includes a 30-minute side-by-side couples' massage at Spa Magnolia, a luxurious guest room and a bottle of wine, followed by an included continental breakfast the next morning. Rates start at $289 per night.

In-room work station
The Fire & Ice package, which was my wife’s and my first experience at the Magnolia, includes a Diamond Room with a gas fireplace, a bottle of sparking wine, and a full hot breakfast the next morning at Catalano Restaurant. The Fire & Ice package starts at $225 per night.

If you’re unwilling or unable to get away on Valentine’s Day weekend, no worries; the Magnolia’s packages will be available through the end of March. For those who travel with their furry companions, the Magnolia has rooms that are designated “pet-friendly,” with a modest pet fee of $60 per stay. Read more here

Hotel Lobby
The Magnolia has the feel of a vintage property that has been scrupulously kept up to date, so guests may be surprised to learn it was actually built in 1998. During a tour of the property on our previous visit, hotel executives told us that the hotel’s local developers built it specifically to fit in with the style of the older structures that surround it. As a result, guests enjoy the best of both worlds: old-world charm and 21st century conveniences.
