Alaska Air group begins seasonal service between Mammoth Lakes and Vegas

Alaska Air Group initiated service between Las Vegas (LAS) and Mammoth Lakes on Jan. 15, beginning twice-weekly round trips that will run through April 6.

Alaska Air's (NYSE:ALK) carrier Horizon Air will operate nonstop flights from LAS to Mammoth Yosemite Airport (MMH) on Mondays and Thursdays, providing opportunities to experience the fresh powder at Mammoth Mountain as well as the glitter of Vegas throughout the winter season.

Flights will leave LAS at 5:50 p.m., arriving at MMH at 6:53 p.m. Return flights will leave MMH at 4:05 p.m., and arrive at LAS at 5:13 p.m., giving locals and visitors alike an opportunity to enjoy the nightlife of Vegas and ski fresh powder during the day.

"Located just 15 minutes from Mammoth Yosemite Airport, Mammoth Mountain Resort is one of California's best ski destinations, boasting more than 3,500 acres of skiable terrain," Joe Sprague, Alaska Airlines spokesperson said in a statement announcing the commencement of service.

Tourism officials in the Mammoth Lakes area also see the new service as a way to attract many of the international visitors who already visit Vegas.

"These visitors often come to the U.S. for two to three weeks at a time,” Michael Vanderhurst, director of sales and international marketing for Mammoth Lakes Tourism, said when service was announced in August 2014. “Latin America, the U.K., and Australia are three markets that will jump at the opportunity to experience a ski holiday at the legendary Mammoth Mountain, with the added bonus of being able to experience Vegas during their vacation as well."
