Qatar Airways to begin Vegas service in Jan. ’18

Qatar Airways will launch four-times-weekly service from Doha, Qatar to Las Vegas, Nevada on Jan. 8, 2018, making the airline the first Gulf carrier to provide regular scheduled service to Sin City.

“Las Vegas is a thriving leisure destination and adding the city to our route map has been long overdue,” His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, said in a statement announcing the new service. “Our passengers appreciate the glamour, style and allure of Las Vegas and beginning in 2018, we are going to give our passengers from around the world direct and convenient access to this unique capital of entertainment.”

The new route also provides U.S.-based flyers with an additional point of departure when traveling to Qatar Airways’ global network of over 150 destinations, the airline said.

“International travel has been on an exponential rise and Qatar Airways … provid[es] U.S. passengers with shorter travel times to popular destinations in Thailand, Africa, the Middle East and India,” Mr. Al Baker continued.

Flights will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, departing Doha at 8:05 a.m. and arriving at 1 p.m. Return flights will leave LAS at 2:55 p.m., arriving in Qatar at 5:20 p.m. the following day.

The new route will operate with a Boeing (NYSE:BA) 777-200LR. According to SeatGuru.com, Qatar’s 777-200LR has 42 flat-bed seats in Business Class and 217 standard seats in Economy. Business Class seats are 22 inches wide with a pitch and bed length of 78 inches. Economy seats are 18.9 inches wide, among the most generous in the industry, with pitch of 33 inches.

The route connecting McCarran International Airport (LAS) to Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha will be the airline’s 11th route to the United States. It will also be Qatar’s second route from the U.S. west following its launch of the Los Angeles International (LAX) to Doha route in January 2016.

“With each new U.S. destination, we are bringing our signature Qatar Airways hospitality to more Americans and raising their expectations for the services and sophistication a global airline can offer,” Mr. Al Baker noted.

Qatar has been consistently ranked among the world’s best carriers and was named the World’s Best Airline in the SKYTRAX 2015 World Airline Awards. The carrier occupied the No. 2 spot on the SKYTRAX 2016 World’s Top 100 Airlines ranking and, in 2016, was also named as the airline having the World's Best Business Class cabins, the Best Business Class Airline Lounge, and the Best Airline Staff in the Middle East.

Starting this month, the carrier will provide amenity kits to passengers traveling in Economy class. Kits will contain comfort items such as an Institut Karité Paris lip balm and a Miradent dental kit as well as an eye mask, socks and ear plugs.

While such kits are commonplace in Business and First Class cabins, Qatar is one of the few airlines to provide amenity kits to its main cabin passengers.
