Outrigger offers special deals on Fiji

If you’re looking for a shoulder-season getaway, the Outrigger Resort on Castaway Island, Fiji, may be just the ticket.

Guests booking and paying for a stay of five nights or more at the resort located on Castaway (Qalito) Island will automatically receive an Outrigger Resorts’ Pass to Happiness and all meals included.

The pass offers four different options, including a family pass for four, and three passes for couples: an aqua pass, an R&R pass and an adventure pass. Each pass is valued at up to US$209.

The Family Pass includes a beach dinner including a bottle of wine for two adults, five hours babysitting and inner reef snorkeling (presumably so the grown-ups can enjoy dinner uninterrupted), and hand line fishing for two adults and two children.

The Aqua Pass offers two banana boat rides as well as hand line fishing, outer reef snorkeling and night snorkeling for two, while the R&R Pass includes a beach dinner for two and bottle of wine, a his-and-hers Lailai massage and a tropical manicure-pedicure or head and shoulder kneading. Finally, the Adventure Pass include a village tour, dolphin safari and sunset kayak excursion. Each of those activities is for two people.

Complimentary meals include a full hot and cold buffet breakfast at the Water’s Edge Restaurant or á la carte selections at the Nuku Marau Bar & Grill. For lunch, guests can choose á la carte offerings at either Water’s Edge or Nuku Marau, or choose betwee a buffet or wood-fired pizza in the Sundowner Bar. Dinner choices include a family buffet or á la carte choices at Water’s Edge. Adults can also opt for a wood-fired pizza or Asian-Fijian á la carte choices in the adults-only 1808 Restaurant. The 1808 Restaurant is subject to seasonal availability.

Five-night minimum stays must be purchased before Oct. 31 and the stays must be between Oct. 13 and Dec. 22, or between Jan. 24 and March 27, 2016. More information is available at http://castawayfiji.com/pass-to-happiness/

To obtain a sample rate for a stay at the resort, TheTravelPro checked the Castaway Island website for the week of U.S. Thanksgiving. Rates for that time, including the special package, ranged from US$528 per night to US$672 per night, depending on the selection of accommodations. The Island Bure was the least expensive, the Oceanview Bure in the mid-range while the Beach Bure had the highest tariff.

Getting to Castaway Island requires a bit of planning. From the West Coast, Fiji Airways operates a daily non-stop flight from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Nadi International Airport (NAN) on the western side of the main island Viti Levu. The 11-1/2 hour flight leaves at 9:30 p.m. and arrives in Fiji at 6:00 a.m. two days later, owing to the crossing of the international date line. Travelers from the East Coast will connect through a West Coast hub on their journey.

After arriving at NAN, travelers can take a float plane or helicopter directly to the island. Other options include catamarans and private water taxis that depart from Denarau Marina, approximately 11 kilometers from the airport.

For travelers who enjoy tropical getaways, sun, the ocean, beaching and just chilling out, this could be the perfect getaway.
