Excellence Group Luxury Hotels & Resorts will break ground later this year on its second adults-only resort in the Dominican Republic. Excellence El Carmen Resort is expected to open its doors to guests before the end of 2016.
The all-inclusive upmarket resort, which will be situated on the shores of Punta Cana approximately 30 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), will offer 452 suites ranging from 800 square foot junior suites to upper suites as large as 2,000 square feet. Many will offer ocean views and direct beach access. In addition to the suites, the resort will offer 12 restaurants, 10 bars and the Millé Spa.
“Excellence El Carmen’s facilities will include … the renowned quality service that guests have come to expect from any Excellence Resort,” Domingo Aznar, the group’s vice-president of sales and marketing, said in a statement announcing the new property.
With its primary geographic presence in the Caribbean, Excellence Group also operates the adults-only Excellence Punta Cana Resort in the Dominican Republic, the Excellence Riviera Maya Resort and the all-ages Finest Playa Mujeres Resort in Cancun, Mexico and has under development the kid-free Excellence Oyster Bay Resort in Jamaica. It also operates the boutique Beloved Hotel in Playa Mujeres, Cancun.
Travel to the Dominican Republic can represent a significant savings over other Caribbean destinations, even at upmarket properties such as those operated by Excellence Group. Checking the web site for rates at the Punta Cana property that is already operating for a trip in mid-November (after the end of hurricane season), rates started at $260 per night for Junior Garden Suite or Mountain View to $600 per night for the Honeymoon Suite and its ocean view. Those rates are all-inclusive but, as always, rates are subject to change.
