Qatar Airways joins oneworld Alliance

16-year-old Qatar Airways has become the newest member airline to join the oneworld® Alliance, becoming part of the alliance on Oct. 30.

In North America, Qatar flies directly to and from Montreal’s Pierre Trudeau International (YMQ),Chicago’s O’Hare (ORD), Philadelphia International (PHL), New York’s JFK (JFK), Washington, D.C.’s Dulles International (IAD), Miami International (MIA), and Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental (IAH).

The airline offers nonstop flights to Qatar's hub Doha International Airport (DOH) from JFK, ORD, IAH, and IAD. Other flights between the United States and the Middle East connect through key European gateways, including Paris and London.

As a member of oneworld, Qatar Airways offer access to more than 20 new destinations and five countries, including Ethiopia, Iran, Rwanda, Serbia and Tanzania. Qatar Airways also provides convenient one-stop connections across hundreds of cities, such as flights between Asia and Southern Europe or between Asia and Africa.

All told, Qatar Airways serves 120 destinations with what it refers to as one of the youngest fleets in the skies.

Expanding oneworld to include 13 member airlines, Qatar Airways is the second member airline based in the Middle East; Royal Jordanian Air was the first, joining oneworld in 2007.

Qatar adds one of the world’s fastest growing and most highly rated airlines to the world’s fastest growing and most highly rated global airline alliance, according to the airline’s website.

“Becoming part of oneworld, which holds more ‘best alliance’ awards than any of its competitors, will strengthen Qatar Airways’ competitiveness, enabling it to offer customers an unrivaled alliance global network served by partners that include leading airlines from every region,” wrote Kenyan publican Standard Digital.

Travelers who are members of American Airlines’ AAdvantage® mileage program can earn and redeem AAdvantage miles on all eligible Qatar Airways flights.
