DOWNSHIFTERS' DIARY: The challenges of the road

It sounds odd to say this some 10 years into the 21st century but staying in touch from the road is still a challenge.

While both my wife and I have cell phones, coverage varies by carrier and we found our AT&T GoPhone service a bit lacking across western Nebraska, southern Colorado, and northern New Mexico. Not the end of the world, really, but a land-line phone call to her son to discuss Duke's victory over Butler in the last game of the Final Four cost about $25. (Sigh.)

I'm also seeing quite clearly that, while most hotels offer business centers, all are not created equal. Many - including the one at which I'm writing this post - are complimentary, but don't allow one to upload photos (which I consider important to many of my posts) and have other limitations.

There's much to tell about our journey thus far, but I want to tell it well, so I ask your indulgence and patience. There will be much more to come. Soon. I promise.
