TRAVEL TIP: Keep your belongings IN your belongings

For the second time in my recent travels, I've inadvertently left something aboard an aircraft. It didn't have to happen.

Last time, it was a folder with (non-confidential) notes and my itinerary. Easily recreated. This time, it was my generic MP3 player.

What did I do wrong? In both cases, I tucked the items into a seat back pocket or other hiding place and promptly forgot about it. NOT a good plan.

Going forward, I'll be sure to deal with the hassle of retrieving items from my bag or briefcase and, importantly, putting them back there instead of the seat pocket in front of me when I'm done with them. More hassle, sure, but how many MP3 players do I want to replace anyway?
